MOST HELPFUL WARM UP:
My most helpful warmup was the one pictured below where we learned about how to do textures. This was very helpful for me because in the picture I decided to paint, there were many rocks which we learned how to do in this warmup. Although I did not use the other two textures we learned, the rock texture was extremely helpful for me to know because I needed it for a large portion of my painting.

PLACE/ IMPORTANCE OF PLACE IN MY ART:
The place represented in my art is Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge in Big Pine Key, Florida. I took the picture that I based this painting on at the end of the campground by the water, looking out at a sunrise by a bridge. This place is extremely important to me because my Nana and Poppa travel to this campground and stay there for three months every year. My mom, my sister, and I go to visit them for around a week every year while they are down there and my Uncle from New York comes down as well. I love and cherish this time that we all spend down there together. We have such an amazing time all spending time together and it is a tradition that we get up early, and go to this spot and watch the sunrise every morning. This view is one of my favorite views and places to be in the whole world. I can't describe how much I love this place. This place brings me such happiness and that's why I wanted to paint it. It is especially important to me this year because of two reasons. When hurricane Irma came through, it destroyed the campground and it is in the process of being rebuilt so it is really important to me that it goes through a quick recovery since this place is so important to me. Another reason that I really wanted to paint this is that my Nana broke her wrist this year, and has not be been doing well this year. They are not going to be able to go down this year and we will not be able to go down to visit them which was really sad to me but I'm glad my Nana will be staying here to heal quicker as well. That is another reason I wanted to paint this beautiful place; it reminds me of how much I love being there and serves as an image I can look at and can bring me happy memories in place of me actually being this year. I actually got emotional writing this because of how much I love this place so I am really pleased with my decision to paint this piece and the happiness it brings to me seeing it.

THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF MY PIECE:
I think that the most challenging part of my piece was how many different elements there were to it. There was the sky, clouds, the bridge, water, a tree, rocks, etc. I am a perfectionist so I found it challenging get everything done in a timely manner because there were so many elements that I wanted to have done perfectly, especially because the place means so much to me. That is the aspect of my piece that I found the most challenging.

THE MOST SUCCESSFUL PART OF MY PIECE:
In my opinion, the most successful part of my piece is the bridge, especially the bottom part that is supporting it. I struggled a lot to make it look three dimensional and look like it was connected to the top part of the bridge, but I am very happy with how it turned out. I had to redo it many times and try different color combinations, shapes, etc. but I am happy with how it turned out in the end. I think that it looks three dimensional and connects to the top part of the bridge like I wanted it to. As for the rest of the bridge, I think it was successful because I am happy with how the colors turned out and how straight I was able to make the lines. That is why my bridge is in my opinion, the most successful part of my piece.

MY PROCESS:
The first step in my process was to paint the sky. I used a variety of different blues so it didn't just look like a blue block on my painting. This was my background so that I would be able to paint other things such as the clouds and the bridge on top. Next, I started to paint the lower supports of my bridge which I later realized was not a good idea. I should have painted the water and the back part of the bridge first so I did not have to carefully maneuver around what I had already painted when doing the background. It also resulted in me having to redo that part of the bridge a couple of times because I accidentally painted on top of it a few times. The next step of my process was to create the top part of the bridge on top of the sky I had painted. I used tape in order to make the lines straight and mixed the correct color for each part of the bridge. Next, I began to paint the water and I spent a lot of time trying to mix the right color for this. I like the color I ended up with. I then didn't do any detailing int he water but instead, moved onto the rocks on the left side. I used the texture that we learned how to do in class to make the rocks. I then worked on the tree sprouting up from where the rocks were. I then went back and started adding detail to the water which I found quite difficult because I was having trouble making it look realistic. Finally, I went back to the sky and added clouds. The lower part of the sky had colors because of the sunrise so I tried to make the clouds reflect some of this orange color. Then, I had to go back and touch up some of my sides and fix any little things on my painting and I was done!
